Under California law, dog bites are strict liability which means that the owner of the dog is responsible for the injuries suffered by an injured party in a dog bite case. It makes no difference whether or not the dog had previously attacked someone else or had shown a propensity to be dangerous.

However, the law differs when it comes to the keeper of the dog (as opposed to the owner) and to landlords.
